It is the most practical departure point if you are staying in east or central Bali, Ubud, Candidasa, Amed, or Sidemen. There is no reliable ATM directly inside the port area. Bring cash before you arrive, both for the small harbour fee some operators or porters may reference, and for any last-minute purchases at the warungs near the boarding area.

Luggage

Port staff generally handle loading larger luggage onto the boat. Keep passports, cash, electronics, sunscreen, and any seasickness medication in a carry-on you keep with you, rather than in checked luggage, so you have access to it during the crossing.

A handful of warungs sit near the harbour, enough for a coffee or a simple meal before boarding. The harbour itself is kept reasonably clean despite the volume of traffic passing through it.

Padang Bai has a reputation among travellers for aggressive touts working the harbour approach, particularly around taxis and luggage handling. The most common issue is a handler taking your bag and then refusing to hand it back until you pay a fee you never agreed to. Because of shallow reef conditions around Gili Meno, larger boats often cannot dock there directly, passengers may transfer by smaller hopper boat from Gili Trawangan, or the boat anchors offshore and moves people across by tender.
